Most of you guys really shock me on how and what the world has gone to.
I for 1 would look in to see if ID, If there is i'd take it to the owner, IF nothing i'd take it to the police station. Don't care if there is $1 or $1,000 in it i wouldn't even think twice on taking it. It isen't my money, And just so you guys that feel like it's a "finders fee" You take just $.01 out of the wallet your looking at theft. And could land yourself behind bars for it. So in the long run how good are going to feel about it when you ARE caught for taking the money and then you have to end up spending more then you took and in jail?
Sorry the coments in this thread has me real boggled. It's just proof of what this god for saken world has gone too. No respect, No help, No nothing from nobody unless there is something in it for yourselves.
Here is something to think about also, Say YOU lost your wallet/purse and you had just say $500 - $1,000 in it and you misplaced it. It gets returned to you by someone off the street or police department and ALL your money is gone. How would you feel about it? How pissed would you be? It's not right for them to take YOUR money that never belonged to them now does it?
Oh wait i see what it is, You just don't care about if YOU found it, Take it and be happy. But if it was YOUR stuff being stolen you'll be pissed. Gotcha

bingo.
You can drop a wallet in the mailbox, you know. driver's license = mailing address. Remove cash first, of course. Teaches individual a couple lessons: don't keep that much cash in your wallet, and DON'T DROP YOUR FKN WALLET.
If I lost my wallet, and i got it back without cash, I'd be happy. No need to get a new driver's license, my family's pictures and my address aren't in the hands of a potential psychopath, and I won't need to pay to replace everything else in there either. Club cards, credit cards, student ID, etc. Any cash in there (always less than $100) is small change compared to what I would have to spend potentially had I not gotten my wallet back.

I highly doubt that, actually. No lawyer in the world would prosecute anyone for theft under $500. Least of all on circumstantial evidence as 'I gave you back your mpety wallet, ergo I took its contents.' (This plays again into your 'theres nothing in it for me' theory, there's nothing in it for the lawyer for the lawsuit to take place.)

I couldn't agree more, unfortunately there's nothing that can be done for it.

I grew up in a neighborhood with a LOT of drug dealers and even dealt myself for a period. A lot of people finding that much money in my area don't touch it because they know only one kind of person in these streets HAS that much cold hard cash on their person and they go looking for it when it turns up missing. I'd take going to jail any day over being the fool who pinched a dealers cash and got caught for it. As far as it comes to those people it's usually BEST to leave it where you found it. Like when you find a bomb, if you cant disarm it, don't touch it.

Drakken, Yeah the lawyer themselves may not think it's worth it. But the cops don't think that. Mayeb it's where i live. Buthere i've seen the stupidest thing be done and charged for that shouldn't of even been touched because of it being so small.
And as for livign in bad neighborhood, Uh you don't have to tell me about it lol. Only thing 2/3 of this town lives for is Drugs.

Funnily enough no
If i found a wallet I would return it with everything (well the way I found it). Purely because I would expect people to do the same, I've lost my wallet before and it came back perfectly. Given that if i found a $50 note by itself, I wouldnt hand it, so its mine :P

Uhm, I don't know why the this has come as a surprise to you. Are you 12 or do you live under a rock or something?
First of all, unless you are in rural areas or an area where people use cash 99% more than EFPOS or on Credit Credit card, then you got a lot to learn. If i'm going into the city, then at most It will be $100 and I would only bring that much money if at one time if I have a purpose to hold that much money.
But as much as you are trying to lecture people on your own morals and values, people are not going to listen to you. But uhh, If I lost my wallet, I would glad that I just got it back than having money lost.

Drugs are bad? Caffeine is consumed by 80% of people in the U.S. Guess they're a lot of bad communities.

Dream Runner no i'm not 12, I'm 25 FYI. And diffrent places where ppl live. I'm making a statement on how flat out rude ppl are on "stealing" crap thats ISEN'T there's. Way i said put themselves in the person shoes that had the Wallet/Purse mispleaced. Doesn't mean all because you lost it it's fair game to whoever finds it.
And as for drugs. I never said they were bad, i was making a coment to Drakken about the "dealers" yeah i live in that area also so i know what he's talking about with it. And how this whole town you look at someone wrong way or like they said take money thats laying around that ISEN'T yours could be worse then getting a slap on wrist from cops.
But yeah my morals on it all wont make ppl look at it diffrently. But yet i have the right to speak my thoughts on it just like the next person speaking there's about just going to take the money for there effort of throwing away the wallet. which is bs to me. just my coments is bs to them and looks of it to yourself as well.

Check ID, look up their # and give them a nice little ring. Leave a message if no one picks up. Give it back pro-bono.
Because I know how much of a bitch it is to call the bank to tell them you lost your CC/Debit Card. Then have to go in, and get your drivers licsence re-taken. I hate the DMV with so much passion, i'm sure others feel the same way.

First of all, I disagree. I think its perfectly fair game. I take more of an anarchy view on this, whether you think its rude is irrelevant to the fact that its person X fault for loosing an important item such as their wallet.
It's difficult to know where you are coming from, when you haven't quoted them at all and even more so, when you have made new paragraph for a new point.
But you really gave the impression that drugs were bad, since you said 2\3 of your community takes drugs, especially when you first said at the start that you live in a bad neighborhood. Now since a large majority of people are taking drugs, you don't think thats somehow contributing towards your neighborhood being "bad"?
They're is a difference in having an opinion on something and telling others that their opinion is bad. No one had any judgment on you, and especially not me before you even said that post which I responded to before. But even still, you continue to push your own idealism on others.

Anarchy means staying up passed your bedtime.
I'm a large believer in survival of the smartest and fittest, but I also have a sense of 'do unto others.' And if I lost my wallet and came across it empty, with a couple people standing nearby. I'd lose it. 'You didn't notice anybody open this wallet sitting right here on the bench beside you eh? didn't take a peak in it yourself? My cash just up and vanished on it's own? maybe I SPENT it without remembering it?' It would probably escalate to a stabbing. Usually best not to be the guy found when the money isn't.
I keep my wallet on a chain atatched to me at all times, not from losing it but form it being punked at concerts. Now whenever I feel a tug theres a fist following that wallet and steel toes following the guy on the way down.

Couldn't that also be miss guided anger? I mean, how do you know that the person who handed it back to you is the person who took your money? Isn't it common sense that you should never ever take more money in CASH than you need, people should take as little as they can. I think it would be just playing it safe than carrying around $200+.
But most people, would be actually glad just to get their wallet back. A lot of more people would have more important things in their wallet than just cash.

Here are the few things I would do:
1) I would check the wallet to see if there are any I.D. or something like that? If there is contact information, then I would contact the person to say that he or she dropped the wallet by accident on the street and they should come to my home and get it. And to be honest, I would never take anything out of the wallet.
2) If it happens there is no contact info or no I.D., then I would hand it over to the police.

Not here to bad mouth what your saying Dream Runner, But also you need to remember and think about not everyone has a Bank Account of any sort. Also live off of paycheck to paycheck so they money they have from cashing check it could be that 1 day you just cashed check. OR on way to pay your bills or get Money Orders to mail out the bills. There is ALOT of reasons to have more then $200+ on you at multiple times.
And no i'm not one without a bank account, I use to be in the past. So i don know how much money i use to keep in my wallet at all times for the reasons i just mentioned.
So it's mostly common sense i believe with the whole, If you wouldn't like someone taking my/your hard earned cash because of my/your stupidity for losing it, Then don't take the other persons hard earned cash if it's in the wallet/purse as well. Thats all i wanted to make across.
Now i do see your point sorta about the whole well they lost it, shame on them the dumbasses etc. But now if i see money just laying around on street, Yeah i'll take it. But if it's in someone elses private belongings then nah, Guess i'd be that good guy that would ring your phone or knock on your door IF i found it IF you had lost it. Just how i am.
But don't expect everyone to follow my way of life. SO sorry for the preaching i did in here about it. Just i figured maybe there would of been more honest ppl in this world, And come to find out there isen't. There's more dishonest folks then i figured so it kinda surprised me.

If I'm the person who lost that 500 bucks, I may now be in big trouble. That might be a mortgage payment, or grocery money, or (these days) gas money, without which I could lose my house, my family doesn't eat, or I can't get to work.
Conversely, if I'm the one who finds that wallet, I'm holding 500 bucks more than I started the day with; 500 bucks that isn't mine. For me, holding to the Law of Return means that keeping that wallet/money only sets me up for thrice the grief caused to the person who's wallet this is. The opposite is also true, when I return it instead.
I'd rather be known for being generous with little than stingy with a lot.

WTF? Do you deserve to get mugged for your iphone? because that is probably worth a few hundred dollars? People carry around that much cash for many reasons, because they don't have a bank account for example. Or they were collecting money for charity and were on the way to the bank, etc. etc.
My Dad lost his cell-phone many years ago and someone called us to return it, it was so kind. We would do the same. We even got top-end computer delivered to us and no-one ever claimed it but we got it back to its rightful owner. You could be the one who loses something next time.

iphone? My mobile is the nokia 2600. its pretty old. But, since you know... took my post way out of context. I said in cash. I actually used capitalized letters for responses like yours, to bad didn't work huh? But I didn't say stolen or anything. I actually meant if you are carrying that much around, wondering around on a daily basis.
I know people who don't have a bank account and people get paid CIH, but they do not carry $500 in their wallets! No, a lot of people who don't have a bank accounts store most of their money in a place where it is safe. But it really comes to me as a surprise that the people who are doing charity somehow get that much cash in a day. But then again I have also said.

Congratulations on your dad I guess. I'm really going to try and care, but I do wonder who "it" is. However a friend of mine did get an 21 inch LCD monitor to his door and obviously, he didn't order it. Good karma sometimes comes. But, for your "warning" I will wait until it happens, but so far being careful and street smart has keep me going pretty good. And yes, I have been mugged too.
Although, you really didn't get the purpose of my post that you responded too. Here, I would point it out to you. "Who is trolling? This is a really random comment." And guess what I did?

Stealing someone's cash from a wallet is cheap, low down and disgusting no matter WHAT the excuse. It disgusts me how everyone now days just kicks someone when they are down. "You lost that much money, it's your fault for being an idiot and carrying cash!" There is NOTHING right about that. Period. My brother is handicapped. His wallet fell out of this pocket. He does not have credit and had cash on him which was stolen, and the wallet returned - nevermind the fact that he does not make that much money and has bills to pay and such - and honestly I do not care who it is - it is still not your cash, you are stealing, period. There is also tons of reasons to have a lot of cash on your person. Does not make them stupid - it's called bills, cashing checks, and loads of other reasons.
(and everyone going on and on about carrying credit - all these people that throw around credit now days are way more retarded - everyone has credit debt - wow GG)

Most people have always prioritized their self interest. You'd have to be seriously naive and ignorant to not know that. Also, basing the world on a few posts on a miniscule GW forum is just baed.
Personally, I'd only make the effort to return it because I would hate to have it happen to me and life is hard enough already
